7 Main Reasons Why Websites Are NOT Selling

First off, what is a website?

In a nutshell, a website is a collection of web pages sharing the same domain and is publicly accessible. Its purpose is can be to spread awareness, to give out information, or for most businesses, to generate more leads and sales.

However, having a website will NOT guarantee the success of your business. As of March 2022, there are 200 million active websites around the globe, while inactive sites are now 968 million. Almost five times as many as the number of active ones!

One of the reasons why these web pages are inactive is because clearly, they are not generating any sales. And as a business owner, you could be missing out on the leads and sales which you can have almost passively by just owning a website.

One of the key components of a profitable site is, without a doubt, an enticing copy. And if it’s not your cup of tea… then I suggest finding a good copywriter for your web pages to do it for you and see your sales charts increase.

Or, if you are to check what more you can improve on your existing site, then I suggest you read throughout this post and take note of the things that you’ll find helpful.

7 Reasons Why A Website Is Not Selling

  1. You don’t clearly state what you do.

Have you ever checked out a site, and after some time of browsing through it, you still haven’t seen what the site is about? Yes, a website like this one exists.

You can improve this by changing your headline, maximizing the use of your subheadings, or improving your bullet points. This way, your readers will understand your business and how you can help them.

  1. Your target audience doesn’t see the connection between you and their problems.

This is where a sufficient amount of market research comes in. It’s not enough that you know your product or service like the back of your hand and how it can help your target audience.

You also need to get what your readers have to say or if they are really having this pain that you are trying to solve in the first place.

  1. All you do is talk about how great your company or your product/service is and the awards you’ve earned (Yawn).

Yes, you can, of course, add all these details on your site, but keep in mind that there is such a thing as too much. What you can do is focus more on your target market’s problems and how

you can

  • Help them
  • Resonate with them
  • Share results that you can achieve for them

  1. Prove that your solution works!

Skepticism will always be a part of your target audience…especially at this age where fake solutions and scams are everywhere.

Prove that you are worthy of their attention and investment by showing proof that you can help them. It can be

  • Testimonials of your existing customers
  • Logos of brands or companies that you’ve worked with
  • Publishings or shows that you are featured on

  1. Use the right images.

This is kind of self-explanatory, but some websites are still doing the opposite of it. Make sure that the images you use resonate with your content and your message to your readers. You can also insert humor through these images to make your web page more entertaining to read.

  1. Using massive blocks of text is NOT advisable.

The ideal number of sentences per paragraph is 2-3, or you’ll commit the mistake of giving eyesore to your target readers.

What you want to do to these huge blocks of text (if you have any on your website) is to break them down into several paragraphs. Using bullet points to elaborate your thoughts is a great idea.

  1. Tell your readers what to do.

After improving your formats and proving to your readers that you are worthy of their investments, you also need to tell them what to do next.

You can include call-to-action buttons or step-by-step instructions throughout your copy to direct your target market to where you want them to go. See to it that your instructions are short and direct to avoid confusion.

Conclusion

A good-performing website will, without a doubt, exponentially grow your business. In fact, statistics show that 80% of the population in the US shops online. And keeping these seven reasons that I just mentioned will greatly improve your chances of getting the attention of that 80%.
